WE GOT ABOUT

We had some wins and some losses today.  This morning we walked to nearby Union Square to board the Hop On Hop Off bus to the southern side of the Golden Gate Bridge, to transfer to another bus to visit Sausalito on the other side of the bay.

We had to wait way longer than advertised for this bus to arrive.  So over the bridge we go and through some hills, to be dropped at this bayside area.

This is from the waterfront of Sausalito across the bay looking towards a hazy San Francisco.
Whilst there, I got entangled with a friendly obliging member of the local police force.

So while we waited AGES for the Sausalito bus in the other side, we were back at the stop only a short time to return.  So back over the Golden Gate Bridge, on the open top bus we went, wind blowing my hair and Rob holding onto his cap tightly.  We had a win here, as the connecting bus arrived only minutes later.  But the Hop On Hop Off bus travels a loop, so immediately it swings into traffic and we are flying across the Golden Gate Bridge again!!  Then it turns around and ... We come back across again.

Later in the afternoon, we walked down Powell Street to join an enormous queue for the cable cars.  At least we met a couple of young Canadian girls on vacation, which helped fill in the wait.  There is an old fashioned turntable, manually operated, to turn each cable car around for the return journey.
We got off at Lombard and walked a few blocks uphill to the famous switchback section of street.

The zig zag roadway down the steep incline is crazy but there are beautiful houses on either side and spectacular garden beds of hedges and hydrangea bushes.

But catching the cable car back was frustrating as several of them loaded with annoying tourists
rattled past, not even bothering to stop for us and others waiting.  We walked most of the way back to the hotel, just catching a cable car across along California Street.

On our way to dinner later, we saw this building and heaved an exasperated sigh that even over here, reminders of Collingwood lurk! (Hello CAJ and CER!)

We walked past a jazz club several nights ago so made our way back tonight, to listen to a band play.  And we have a trip to the Sonoma and Napa Valley wine regions booked for tomorrow.  Yea!!
