TASTING TEXAS

So our hire car did not have GPS.  Don't even know how we managed to exit Oklahoma City, even though it wasn't the route I wanted to be on.  So at Purcell, some distance south, we purchased a Tom Tom from Walmart.  (We looked hard to find the kinda folks you see in those emails, but maybe we were at the wrong store!)

So we cut east towards Asher, then turned south again to Ada.  I had a string of small towns we should pass through, but we decided to just then enter our destination into the GPS: Tyler, Texas.  Next thing, we have left behind our more back country roads, with farmhouses and thick vegetation.  We are driving, driving, driving on more major roads.  The only small towns we did drive through were not attractive.

Our original plan was to skirt east of Dallas.  Guess where we ended up?  At one point, we went around a loop three times, trying to get onto Lyndon Bains Johnson freeway.  Even the GPS lady gave up and refused to speak to us!  At one of the left turns Rob turned hard left, towards incoming traffic, but quickly managed to swing to the right (our WRONG) side of the road.

But eventually we figured it out.  And the lady started talking to us again!

Let me tell you, with all the miles we travelled today, thank goodness our Chevy Malibu is air conditioned.  We saw the outside temperature climb to 108 degrees!

So we are now "lodged" for the night.  "Lodging" is a word we see where we would say accommodation.

And tomorrow, we will attempt to do it all again!

  1. That is so funny - talk about the Griswalds on vacation. I'm still laughing - oh to be a fly on the wall yesterday. Hope the GPS leads you in the right direction on your travels and doesn't lead you up the garden path. Good luck and keep the laughs coming. xxx
