ARRIVAL IN WASHINGTON

Our plane was delayed an hour leaving New Orleans, due to some computer system crash yesterday, where the system had to be rebooted and caused flow on delays.  On arrival in Washington, the baggage claim area was almost full with rows of unclaimed suitcases, stacked in rows between the carousels.

Guess what Robert found INSIDE his suitcase tonight?  A "Notice of Baggage Inspection".  Luckily he had read about the T.S.A. locks and had purchased them for each case, so the authorities can open the lock, rather than cutting it off to inspect inside.

We have already walked by Barack and Michelle's unassuming dwelling three times.  First we headed there to see it, then sat on a bench seat in Lafayette Square opposite, watching the crowd.  Later we went by then returned the same way when visiting the supermarket.

This is the Treasury building above, to the left of the White House, and below the side of the Treasury Building.  So many large, imposing buildings all round here.

This is a genuine Secret Service Agent, on duty at an entrance behind the White House.

So after walking around for ages, and finding a small supermarket just before it closed, we staggered back to our own place on H Street in Foggy Bottom.  Nothing to grand, as you can see below.

We both were excited to find a washing machine and dryer in the cupboard off the hallway.  Our suite even has a door bell!  Oh happy days!

  2. Enjoy Washington - Lots to see and do there and all the museums are free (or were). Smithsonian Institute is great. You have obviously shed your crinoline skirt and are ready to don something formal for the White House.
