SAN FRAN TO OKC

Our travel documentation said our pickup to the airport was due at 9 am.  At 8:45 our room phone rings to say our ride is here.  We were ready so down we went, out to the uniformed doorman in front.  We tell him the company, but he misheard and directed us down O'Farrell Street to Mason.  Several cars are there, and an airport shuttle.  But no joy for us.  Waiting drivers did not take kindly to Rob tapping on the passenger window asking!

So we hot foot it round the front of the hotel again.  Again we approach the doorman. We explain we had a phone call our car was waiting.  He thought we were going via airport shuttle (same company  name).  He goes across to a black car which was waiting for us fifteen minutes (as the driver told us, somewhat annoyed)!

We arrived at airport in plenty of time and could book in suitcases and get boarding passes from a Mr.         Nyguen, who was so friendly and helpful, on the terminal footpath.  They were boarding for both Orange Country and OKC and I didn't want to join the wrong line so I asked the woman, "Is this line for Oklahoma City, where the wind comes sweeping down the plains?"  She answered, "Yee haw," which I took as yes.

On board the small plane I popped my head in the open cockpit and spoke to the pilots. One assured me he had forgotten what all the dashboard did.  Plus they had stayed last night at The Holiday Inn.  Once I see this TV ad I will understand the joke!

Lucky the plane took a while to unload.  Rob was standing in the aisle and I remained seated.  That's when I noticed his Kindle, still tucked in the pocket behind the seat in front.  You should have seen his embarrassed grin.  He's the one who checks and rechecks usually!

See a huge convention centre on drive from airport that there is a gun show.  No thanks.  At the motel, heaps of teenagers, some in collar, tie and coat jackets, in this hundred degree heat (air con inside thankfully). Seems there are 22,000 Pentecostals here for a Youth Conference.  Not all at our motel, mind you!

So the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum tomorrow.  What we are here to see!

  1. Are you going to chow down with some grits?
Oh...my flight tomorrow got cancelled. Even Mike giving the engines a good clean out as I requested was enough to beat that ash cloud!!
