Wow! We are just back from the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. What a spectacular it was! We climbed up the cobbled road to the castle and sat in the light drizzle, but the rain gradually cleared.
What a show. The colour and movement and sound of massed bands. Two performances stole the show.
The Swiss percussion band with flag bearers were so precise, like Swiss clocks for their accuracy! At one point the drummers were tossing the catching drumsticks to each other. The flag bearers were hurling their standards over the heads of performers and they were caught on the other side. All so fast. Then the drums shone with neon lights.
Next were the Norwegians, all doing their one year of National Service. There was their band, plus precision marching team. The split second movements, the rifles or boots striking the stone courtyard, their movements from one formation to the next, it was so magnificent.
We'll be glued to the telly over New Year's to see it again.
The sight of an entire castle courtyard filled with dancers, pipers, uniformed military and pipe bands was an absolute spectacle. And up on the castle walls were shone images to support each act. The sound, the sight, the lighting all created a magical evening.
