Schloshing Around
Today we had real success getting to our intended destinations with a minimum of fuss.
Thanks to advice from the delightful young woman at Reception, we caught our usual U-bahn train to Zoo station and then the M45 bus out straight to the front of the former Prussian palace Schloss Charlottenburg.
With the audio guide, we wandered through the new and old wings of this enormous and sumptuous royal residence. Fredrick the Great was one former occupier. The gardens (round the back) were sooo huge.
The bus back, then a train to Potsdamer Platz, another to Brandenberg Tor and we walked through the famous gates, down past the US Embassy, back to the remarkable Memorial for Jewish Dead. We had a really good look st the Memery Stones this time, then descended to the Museum.
It gives a sobering perspective to the scope and size of Germany's determination to annihilate Jews, gypsies and political enemies.
We caught 2 trains back to our Stadtmitte station ... Feeling quite snug at our navigational skills today.
Surely we have walked many kilometres these few days, whilst back home, our Jenna covered the half marathon course today (her first time) in only 2 hours and 24 minutes!!! Family success all round today, me thinks.
